Red is for the blood He gave, GREEN is for the grass He made. YELLOW is for the sun so bright, ORANGE is for the edge of night BLACK is for the sins we made. WHITE is for the grace He gave. PURPLE is for His hour of sorrow PINK is for the new tomorrow...A handful of jelly beans simple, colorful and sweet reminds of the reasons He makes our life so complete Author Unknown. I was asked how does the Jelly Bean fit into Easter. The exact origins of the jelly bean are lost in time, and only a part of its history is known. Most experts believe the jelly center is a descendant of a Mid-Eastern confection known as Turkish Delight that dates back to Biblical times . ¶The shell coating is an offspring of a process called panning, first invented in 17th century France to make Jordan Almonds. The panning process, while done primarily by machine today, has remained essentially the same for the last 300 years. The French began by rocking almonds in a bowl filled with sugar and syrup until the almonds were coated with a candy shell. Today, large rotating pans do the heavy work, while master confectioners apply their true art in adding the ingredients to create just the right shell. ¶While it is not clear exactly when the jelly bean was first created, it is believed it occurred during the American Civil War. A gentleman named William Schraft manufactured them and encouraged the Union soldiers to use them as snacks during the war. ¶ The odd things is it wasn't until the late 1930s or 1940’s, that jelly beans became a part of Easter traditions. The reason is because of their egg-like shape. ¶ Jelly beans became associated with the Easter, likely because of the cute little Easter toys that started around that time that carried jelly beans as Easter eggs. The Easter Bunny who is believed to deliver Easter eggs as a symbol of new life and abundant life both the egg and the bunny were used in early Christian symbolism.. Here is the Jelly bean Gospel ¶Jelly Bean Gospel: In the beginning was God (white jelly bean). God created everything, including Adam & Eve. Adam & Eve disobeyed God, & brought sin into the world (black jelly bean). Sin separates & keeps us away from God. But God loves us so much that He wanted us back. He sent Jesus to live & die for us (red jelly bean). Jesus was crucified, buried in a tomb, & everyone thought that was the end of the story. But on Easter Sunday morning (yellow jelly bean), Jesus rose from the dead. He was alive again (green jelly bean)! Jesus died for us so that we could have our sins forgiven & be a part of God's family (purple jelly bean). We can be happy (pink jelly bean) because of what Jesus did for us. "Orange" you glad that Jesus loves you! ¶And that is how the jelly bean came to be part of Easter.
