The White Rhino neared extinction as a species and was only saved thanks to intensive conservation efforts. The latest population estimate is 20405, and the vast majority of White Rhinos live in South Africa, which is currently experiencing a poaching crisis. Their current Conservation Status is Near Threatened, and their current locations are South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Uganda.
Southern White Rhinos were rescued from the brink of extinction, with only around 50 individuals left int he wild. However their cousins the Northern White Rhino is none so lucky with only 6 individuals left.
