I'm not against slaughter...I'm against horse and animal CRUELTY and ABUSE. There is a difference you know...Not a thin line but a VERY GREAT DIFFERENCE. Now I'm not getting mad or anything but I found this and it was very effective on me and should be on you:
Horse and Animal Slaughter…One thing
A little something that can change your mind on the way you think about horse slaughter... Are you opposed to horse slaughter? Got a sparkly banner on your profile to prove it? Let me ask you this: When's the last time you ate a hamburger? Or had bacon or sausage for breakfast? Or had a ham sandwich for lunch? Do you know how those animals died? They were slaughtered. Think about that before you're so quick to judge people who won't blindly jump on the anti-horse-slaughter bandwagon. If you scream about inhumane treatment of horses but don't give a crap about any other animals that are slaughtered for their meat, you're a hypocrite. I am not a vegetarian. I'm a supporter of slaughter -- IF it's done humanely. It's fine if unwanted horses are killed without cruelty, and processed for consumption. There are not enough resources to keep no-kill animal shelters running, and cats and dogs are much cheaper to feed and care for than horses. It's foolish to think they can all live happily ever after. There aren't enough resources to sustain that fantasy world. We don't need anti-slaughter legislation. We DO need anti-cruelty legislation.
What exactly defines a 'meat animal'? What’s so different about a cow being eaten for meat than a horse? It's okay for unhappy or unwanted horses to be slaughtered if it's done humanely. Would you rather have horses that were put to sleep humanely than ones who will be forever living with starvation and cruelty? If there was no horse slaughter, then you'd see much more abandoned and uncared for horses running around. Yes, they are being killed, but they only feel the pain for seconds, unlike their entire lives, if they are kept alive. Most of these animals are BRED for slaughtering....You think making such a big deal about this and crying about this is going to help? NO. Be informed. Do your homework. Be rational. Get real.
